Two of Cups Chicken Print

The two of cups is all about connection and the beauty and power of two coming together. It could be an attraction, an agreement, or sharing of emotions together with a lover or friend. It could mean a bonding of talents and ideas. In this piece, heavily inspired by Walter Crane’s work in Faerie Queen Vol 2., I’ve put two chickens by their coop with a wreath that symbolizes a union of souls. The Caduceus symbol of two serpents with wings is featured in the Rider-Waite Tarot deck and represents diplomacy and peace, and the lion in its center is a fusion of opposing forces, representing a harmonious relationship. The Caduceus was originally a staff carried by the Greek god Hermes who was a deliverer of messages. I’ve also included some decorative motifs on the sides to highlight different stages of a chickens life as well as a cricket, and grasshopper. At the top, Gallus, which is no longer a recognized constellation, represents a rooster. Finally, the grape vines are a symbol of intoxicating joy between friends and lovers and are often associated with Dionysus and his wine, so I’ve included them throughout the art and in the form of an arbor that surrounds these two chickens.
